The featured band for this week is The Helio Sequence. I had the priviledge of seeing them live as they opened for Keane at a concert in Philly. A two man band from Portland, Oregon. The duo manages to bring a lot to the table in terms of a unique melody enhanced by multiple sounds. The drummer is vastly entertaining through his facial expressions and drumming style. I definitely encourage you to check them out, both their newer stuff as well as their earlier albums.
Enjoy!
Some Videos to Get You Through…
Just wanted to post some videos at lunch time to get you through your afternoon. Enjoy.
This one is in addition to Brad’s Double Rainbow post from a few weeks ago.
The Most Interesting Man in the World.
“He might be a crackhead!”
Fantasy Football 2010
Before I actually go into my post, I just want to alert our readers to the “Submit” link/button at the top of the page. This is where the readers can send in their funny/interesting/weird work stories, pictures, or e-mails chains. PLEASE, send us something so we can really get this site going. Our goal is to eventually make it completely user-driven.

Back to the post! I’m sure many of you are just as excited about FF ’10 as I am. If not, scroll down and read some other interesting posts. If you are, I’m going to weigh in on who I see as the top ten fantasy players this year. Hopefully you disagree and will leave a comment as to why.
- RB – Chris Johnson: If you are a football fan and don’t know his name, you are not a football fan. The guy had one of the biggest seasons from a RB in history. He can run and catch… very well. Surprisingly enough, that is a rare package in the NFL these days. If you have the number one pick in your league’s draft, I think you will regret that decision later on. That should tell you all you need to know.
- RB – Ray Rice: With passing game that might actually do something positive this year, there will be much more for defenses to worry about when playing the Ravens than just Rice, despite his huge breakout year in 2009. The 2nd best receiving back in the league behind CJ, he will get a huge portion of the Ravens offensive workload this season.
- RB – Maurice Jones-Drew: Beastly when taking the handoffs, beastly when catching passes. The questions here come from his teammates. The Jacksonville offense does not strike as much confidence in me as others from this top ten, but MJD’s talent alone is enough to take him in the top 10.
- QB – Aaron Rodgers: The guy is a beast and has arguably the best receiving corps in the game. He outscored all other QB’s last year by lots of points (basically I’m not sure how many). Out of the backfield, there are not many better receiving RB’s than Ryan Grant. TE Jermichael Finley is a rising star at that position, and with the wideout threats of Donald Driver and Greg Jennings, Rodgers is in for another huge year.
- RB – Adrian Peterson: The guy is a workhorse and will get a ton of handoffs. This will also decrease his value because he puts the ball on the ground way too much. With Brett “I cannot make-up my mind” Favre coming back, AP’s value will only rise with someone to take the center of attention from him on offense.
- WR – Andre Johnson: The top wideout available without a doubt. Sure Reggie Wayne and Randy Moss are great picks, but neither is as big, strong, or fast as Johnson. He typically won’t be doubled either because Matt Schaub will pick out Jacoby Jones, Kevin Walter, or Owen
Daniels. Certain top 10 fantasy player. - RB – Steven Jackson: Aging and with a weak offense, but year after year Jackson proves that he is a top NFL back. Again, another top receiving back and he can still run. If you are in a PPR (point per reception) league, then Jackson is an especially strong pick. With Sam Bradford at QB, this makes Jackson’s value decrease a bit, but he should be a good safety net for Bradford when receivers are not open.
- QB – Drew Brees: You want to talk about a high-powered offense. Let’s just begin by naming some of his weapons: Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, and Robert Meachem. That’s without mentioning a rookie who could make waves in the NFL this year in Montez Billings.
- RB – DeAngelo Williams: From mock drafts I’ve seen, Williams does not seem to be the most popular, but I think he is a great 1st round value, especially if it takes Jonathan Stewart some time to recover from last season’s injury. Early in the season particularly, Stewart should be a strong number one RB in any fantasy team.
- QB – Peyton Manning: Do you really need an explanation? Joseph Addai is a viable receiving RB. Dallas Clark is the best receiving TE in the league and Reggie Wayne is one of the best WR’s in the league. If Peyton falls to you late in the first, you’re picking up a guy who will consistently bring in points. It’s a guarantee.
Hope this helps with your draft. Let me know what you think. My hope is that some of my picks will be controversial.
Geese & Deer & Pigs…Oh My!
Being that this website is centered around providing people with a short break of entertainment to get them through the day, I thought it would be appropriate to share the entertainment I have gotten the past year while at work, all of which have something to do with wild animals. A little bit of quick background is necessary – I work for a company outside of a major metropolitan area and our campus backs up to a major highway.
Encounter #1
My office is located on the second floor of our building and I have three huge 10′ x 4′ windows that stretch from floor to ceiling. The view out of the windows is of a service driveway that leads to the first floor maintenance area. One day, while I was at lunch, I came back to find a certain buzz around the office and one of my windows had a large hole in the middle of it. After only a couple of minutes, I found that a large goose was attracted to his own reflection and had flown full speed into the gigantic window. It hit with enough force that it sounded like a car crash. The goose broke the glass (which is covered with a thick tint) far enough so that his head poked through into the office. Of course I feel bad for the guy, even though now we needed a new window and there was glass everywhere…but on the other hand…really? Maybe he was flying drunk and if that’s the case, my feelings of sorrow are long gone.
Encounter #2
Again, my office is located on the second floor and on the outside we have a one and a 1/2 foot ledge that runs around the entirety of the building. It was early, probably around 8:45 and out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something run past my window. Being that is was early and I was tired, I just figured I was seeing things and went back to work. Then, I hear my coworker from the next office over cry out, “Oh…My…God.” I wasn’t sure what was going on and then I saw two deer run straight past my window. Yes, there was 3 deer running around on a tiny ledge outside my window. One false move and these things would fall about 20 feet to pavement. The deer couldn’t figure out how to get down and they were following whoever was in front. So for about 2 minutes, they ran back and forth on the ledge while freaking out and banging into our windows. The funniest was seeing them try and turn around…they pulled this difficult maneuver off by jumping onto the others back and somehow falling off on the oppposite side. Finally, they managed to figure out how to get down and they were off like a bat out of hell.
Encounter #3
Another early morning as I was walking into work, I see something out of the corner of my eye again in the adjacent parking lot. I was still waking up and for some reason the thought of a large sheepdog popped into my head. At first, my mind registered this as being completely normal and then logic set in…why is that sheepdog off of his leash…not to mention in a suburban landscape. I decided to check it out and realized that it was a potbelly pig with her two babies. This pig was huge! I looked around to see if anyone else saw this and found out I was the only witness. I had to take a video because there would be no way anyone would believe me. As I took the video, I swear the Mom growled at me or made some kind of aggressive noise. I took that as a sign to stop and go inside…not because I am a coward or have a fear of pigs…but I didn’t want someone to pull into work and see me being chased across the parking lot by a giant pig and her two piglets. Anyway, I went in and shared the video and brought a good story to the office. Turns out the pigs got loose from a stray farm in the woods and ventured down to terrorize normal working class Americans.
Throwback with Lil’ Penny!
Back in the day when MTV played music videos and The Box was a cable channel that only played user requested videos, there was a classic that was brought to our viewing enjoyment. A classy song that incorporated all of the essentials of a quality rap video. It had a simple beat that made you just want to nod your head in agreement, it had flavor, a catchy hook, Dre opening up with a sick rap, a club scene, girls dancing on a wet street, and the clincher…Lil’ Penny playing the guitar and piano keys. It was a unique video as well, I mean where else are you going to see an R&B group pulling choreographed dance moves in unison while wearing overalls. O man, this song takes me back to my days on school bus 319 riding home from elementary school. The great thing about this song is that it is still a classic to listen to today, similar to Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” or Outkast’s “Elevators.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this song, it debuted in 1996 and reached #1 on the Billboard top 100. You know it has to be good when it overtook “Macarena” for the top spot. Anyway, video is below for your viewing enjoyment. I’m gonna go jump in my overalls, unhook one shoulder cause that’s how I roll, and meet the boys for a little dance session in the street with my Ford and a couple of other hot rides in the background. Maybe I’ll pay a neighborhood kid to shoot the video on my phone.
YO YO YO!
I’m not sure if the Yo-Yo trend will ever make as much of a comeback as it did in 2000, but I sure want it to. Maybe it was just in my middle school, but you were definitely the cool kid in school if you could get your hands on a Yomega Fireball. Yes this is a very random thought, but what sparked this post was a guy I work with bringing in his Yomega Saber Wing. He found it going through some old boxes and decided to bring it into work. An excellent idea if you ask me.
Most of us have now taken a chance to show off some of our skills like walking the dog, rocking the cradle, and for the weakest of us, just making it sleep. Once he lubes the axels, we can really get the tricks going.
It’s gotten me to thinking, how much would a Yo-Yo cost these days. Back in the day (which was a Wednesday in case you were wondering), it would cost a pretty penny from what I can remember. The Fireball is now only $10.95 plus shipping, which is a steal if you ask me. I could waste the hours away with one of those things. It brings much more enjoyment than most things that cost that much and lasts a lot longer, too! With all that said, I think I’m going to order a Yo-Yo this weekend.
I’ll leave you with this video of my all-time favorite Yo-Yo trickster – Hiroyuki Suzuki. Have a nice rest of the weekend.
I Love Advertisements!
I am very thankful that there is a shift in the trend with television commercials. Instead of enlightening us, the consumers, about their company or their product in the hope that we end up making a purchase…some companies are just trying to make us laugh and entertain us. I appreciate the latter companies much more. I don’t want to be schmoozed into buying some product I have no need for, just entertain me!
This is precisely why E-Trade is my favorite company. I have no idea what they do, nor do I care or have any intention on finding out. All I know, is that the baby is a genius. He is like 2 and has a more extensive vocabulary than I did when I exited high school. He can juggle multiple girlfriends…even one who is a milkaholic. (I hear that is a tough addiction to break.) Obviously, his bedtime is unheard of for a toddler since he is taking the red eye back…from a bachelor party. Not to mention, he is chillin in first class with his neck pillow and wireless keyboard. Obviously, he is more mature that his buddy, Mike, who is clearly suffering from a severe case of homesickness.
Keep up the good work E-Trade. Still don’t know what you do and I still don’t care. All I know is next time I am on an airplane and the pilot comes on the intercom, you better believe I am going to mistake him for my dad too.
