Growing up my Grandmother and Mother both loved to read. They could cruise through at least a couple of books a week and sometimes one a day. I was always aware of the benefits that reading can provide, no matter what age, but I just never really took in interest. I preferred sports, hanging out with my friends, and video games. However, whenever a book was placed in front of me that was about one of my favorite sports figures or about a new, innovative way to make money, I was intrigued. The specific nature of these books that appealed to my personality and my hobbies in life, encouraged me to read and learn more.
As I have grown older, my time has become more valuable and my ADD has become more active. I don’t have the attention span or the expendable time to be able to sit down and read the new book about Drew Brees. Instead, now I love being able to get out of work on my lunch break, go to Subway, get a bite to eat, and read a few articles from a magazine such as Sports Illustrated or Inc. The articles are short enough that I can get through a bunch of them, all discussing different topics that interest me and still be able to get a lot out of them.
This habit is not as cheap as you may think. Magazines can run anywhere from $4 to $15. So, for example, if you were to purchase 2 magazines a week, you are talking close to $25 a month…that is equivalent to my data plan on my smartphone. Not exactly how I picture myself spending all of that extra income…which I dont have. But, as I have found, if you look hard enough, you can find it cheaper. No matter what it may be.
My solution to this problem was Amazon. Amazon has a wide selection of magazine subscriptions at a very affordable price. Typically, they will have you purchase an annual subscription for one payment. Another nice feature on the site is that they break down your “cost per issue.” This provides a good benchmark to see how much you can save. I hope that you try it out and find this to be a cost effective method to getting your daily reading time in. Your mother would be proud. I know mine is.
A few examples of subscriptions available on Amazon:
“Folk Music for the Modern People” is how Blue Foundation’s Tobias Wilner describes their music. It’s got folk, indie, pop, and electronic music forged into its own unique sound. Blue Foundation is a Danish band formed in 2000 and they are in constant collaboration with other artists to create new sounds. Their record label is Moshi Moshi records which also represents the likes of Bloc Party, Florence & The Machine, Kate Nash, Lykke Li, The Drums, and many more.
The song highlighted today is from their 2007 album, “Life of a Ghost”, and it is called Eyes on Fire. Many of you (mostly women between the ages of 10 and 35) will recognize this song as it was featured on the “Twilight” soundtrack. The lyrics to the song are fantastic and perfectly placed. It is one of those songs that has very tranquil parts and other areas of the song just come to life with all kinds of intensity. A super chill that song that is full of meaning. Kirstine’s (the vocalist) voice is so unique and hypnotizing.
This is the perfect song to fall asleep to. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I am right now.
Other good songs:
Bonfires
Sweep (From the Miami Vice: Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Right off the bat, I want to let you know that I will give a generalized review and try not to reveal many of the details…definitely don’t want to spoil anything for you.
With that said…when I go see a movie, I try not to think of it in terms of wow, that was a really well done movie or that movie is in my top 10. I try to think of it in this sense (business) – I just paid $6-$12 to see that, did it entertain me enough to be worth my cost. After this movie, I was satisfied. It definitely entertained me to the point where I was happy with our choice.
As the credits rolled, my girlfriend summed the entire movie up in one phrase…”The Bourne Identity, only not as good.” Liam Neeson continues his impressive performances in high action roles, which is thoroughly amazing since he is in his 60′s. January Jones looks good in the movie, but her acting skills did not impress one bit…not one ounce of personality. Diane Kruger was much better and provided a strong supporting role.
It is hard to really give my opinion on this movie within going into further details and possibly spoiling the movie for you. This movie won’t win any awards for tremendous acting, groundbreaking cinematography, or a fantastic plot. If you like action, being intrigued, and seeing a 60+ year old badass take his life back, then I would recommend going to see this movie in the theatres. If you are still on the fence or skeptical, just wait until it comes out on NetFlix or RedBox.
As you all probably can tell, I LOVE finding new music, whether hearing it on Pandora, getting a tip from a friend, or searching various internet sources. I also love being able to share these songs that fit my fancy with you in the hope that you would also find some enjoyment from listening to them as well.
Example – I stumbled across him when I was searching through some videos on YouTube and was pleasantly surprised from the music bumping through my speakers. I particularly like this song because it has an awesome beat and lyrics you can sing along too. It mixes electronic music and hip-hop, all topped off with a British accent…which just makes everything better.
Guys can enjoy this video because it has a highly attractive girl playing the part of Example’s girlfriend. Another positive note is that she is way out of his league. Ladies, if your attraction takes you to actors like Ray Romano and David Schwimmer then you have hit the jackpot, because this guy looks like the perfect blend of Everybody Loves Raymond and Ross from Friends.
Just enjoy the video!
And the Love Kickstarts Again!
This song is from his album, “Won’t Go Quietly.” The whole album is pretty awesome but here are some of my other favorites:
For those of you who have yet to see the animated movie, “Despicable Me”…this little clip should be enough to motivate you to get up off of your couch and go rent the movie from RedBox. I mean come on, its a $1 or free if your name is Frugal Fannie and you get their promo code. This adorable little girl is Agnes and she really wanted this stuffed Unicorn for one spectacular reason…because It’s so FLUFFY!
And now for the Dubstep Remix by DJ Turntable. Well done sir. Well done.
I hope that you all show this level of dedication while at work. I also hope that you find a few more sanitary ways to show your strong work ethic and your determination to get ahead while at work.
A couple of things to notice:
The Laptop screen is tilted back for a prime “toilet” viewing angle
Must be casual friday as she has cozy flip flops on
Must be a small business. Not too many stalls.
She is quite flexible
Laptop spelled backwards is potpal. Coincidence…I think not.
I first heard this song on Pandora. A great song for a party, in the club, or just jamming through some Bose headphones. A catchy lyric mixed with a vibey electro beat. Aoki is an American producer and the founder of Dim Mak records. He has a lot of remixes of popular artists such as Drake, Snoop Dogg, and my favorite…Bloc Party. This song features Zuper Blahq, who sounds extremely similar to Will.I.Am.
The world today is vastly different than it was ten years ago. I got my first cell phone when I was 16 and it was as basic as they came…yet still technologically advanced. Today, nearly every tween, teen, young adult, adult, and senior citizen owns a mobile phone. It is to the point where our phones are used every 5 to 10 min, whether it is to check the score of a game, see the weather forecast, get directions, upload our facebook status, text a friend, and yes…get this…even to make a phone call every now and then. Unless you are on AT&T, then you don’t get the priviledge of making phone calls. Nearly everyone in our society uses their phone to such an extent that if they lose it or are without it for a day, they feel naked, like they have lost something very dear to them.
I am no different and thought I would share a few of my favorite apps that I get from the Android market.
1) The FML App
This App gives you a good amount of laughs as you can read different FML (F my life) posts. Users share various stories that make them hate their life. It can be quite entertaining if you have 5 or 10 min to read through the masses of posts.
2) iSyncr App
If you are like me and you constantly need music in your life then this App is a must. It allows you to sync your phone with your iTunes on your computer. You can select certain playlists to be copied onto your phone.
3) Pandora
Everyone should know what Pandora is…it is the Internet radio that allows you to customize your own radio station. You select one of your favorite songs or artists and it creates a station that plays music similar to your selection. This is great if your work blocks internet streaming on your work computer. Just hook up some headphones, turn on Pandora, and your day just got a little bit better (assuming you have good taste in music).
4) Homerun Battle 3D
A game that simulates a Homerun Derby. You can choose among various modes, such as classic, arcade, training, or online matchup. You can compete against yourself, your friends, or other users online. You gain golden balls which allow you to upgrade your character’s equipment, thus upgrading your character. Very addicting!
Many more to come! So check back later for some more.
