Blake Griffin is pure entertainment. He was a star at the ESPY awards. He is a human highlight reel on the basketball court. His reserved, yet hilarious personality appeals to almost everyone. He doesn’t drive an “average” midsize sedan. And he isn’t your “average” spokesman.
I think it would be a brilliant marketing move for KIA to buy some ad space this Super Bowl Sunday and feature this dunk in some way, shape, or form. My imaginative mind has taken me this far…I see a child waking up in the morning, looking around at his role models on the posters surrounding his room, and then he stops at his favorite…A snapshot of a Kia Optima throwing the Blake Griffin Hammer down on its competition (such as a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry) with flashbulbs bursting in the air. (Hence why I sucked in Advertising)
Welcome to the newest weekly section of our site, where Brad or I will preview the weekend’s game in the English Premier League. We will give our take on what to expect from the game and prediction of the score.
Everton v. Manchester United: Goodison Park is a tough place to win, as United found out last season, and I don’t think they will take this task as lightly this season. Assuming Alex Ferguson is bluffing about Wayne Rooney not playing, I expect his goal scoring form to continue at Goodison. Prediction: 1-2
Arsenal v. Bolton: Despite the injury losses of Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, and Thomas Vermaelen, Arsenal should have enough firepower to see this game out. Denilson and Samir Nasri returning along with the improved fitness of Cesc Fabregas should see Arsenal score a handful of goals. Watch for Bolton’s aerial attack to wreak havoc among Arsenal defenders. Prediction: 3-1
Fulham v. Wolves: Hard one to call. Fulham have come out of the gates slowly without the influence of Roy Hodgson and Mick McCarthy always has his boys fired up. I expect a tight, low scoring match. Fulham just does not concede at Craven Cottage. Prediction: 1-0
Manchester City v. Blackburn: City has all the big names stars and I expect them to have no trouble destroying Fat Sam’s Rovers. City have not gelled as a unit so far, but I think this will be their coming out party. They should not have any trouble defending against Rovers’ 6 footers. Prediction: 4-0
Newcastle v. Blackpool: Battle of 2 newly promoted clubs. Blackpool has started strong, but Newcastle stronger. Each wiped out established Premier League sides in their first few games with Blackpool beating Wigan 4-0 and Newcastle defeating Aston Villa 6-0. This should be a fun one to watch, but a potential relegation 6-pointer. Prediction: 1-3
West Brom v. Tottenham: As much as it pains me to say this, I expect Hotspur to fully dominate this match and come away with an easy win. No need to analyze – sorry Albion fans. Prediction: 0-3
West Ham v. Chelsea: Chelsea have been dominant to start the season to say the least. Unfortunately for the Hammers, I can’t see that changing on Saturday. They will put a huge fight against a huge rival at home, but I don’t expect their resistance to last long. Prediction: 0-2
Wigan v. Sunderland: Steve Bruce always finds a way to win, whether it as a player or manager. With the debut of Asamoah Gyan looking likely, I can see Sunderland thumping Wigan in this one. Roberto Martinez really needs to get his men together if they want to get a point, even if they are at home. Prediction: 0-3
Birmingham v. Liverpool: Roy Hodgson has a tough role to play in trying to dig Liverpool out of an early season mess. I still think the players are lacking the confidence they need to go on and push for the title this year as a result of the massacre Rafa left them with last year. Even with a fit Fernando Torres, I see the Brummies getting a point out of this one at St. Andrews. Prediction: 1-1
If you’re like me and 100% of this country, you’re excited about the NFL season starting tonight. I anticipate tonight’s game between the Saints and Vikings to be a great start to the season, despite my previous post about the annoyingness (yes, I know that’s not a word) of the Brett Favre saga. Even though I’m mostly looking forward to seeing amazing athletes bust out long touchdowns and seeing defensive players beat the crap out of wideouts and running backs, there is a more light-hearted side of the game…
GO RAVENS! I know these types of things are supposed to be unbiased, but I just couldn’t end this post without giving a shout out for my favorite team.
Before I actually go into my post, I just want to alert our readers to the “Submit” link/button at the top of the page. This is where the readers can send in their funny/interesting/weird work stories, pictures, or e-mails chains. PLEASE, send us something so we can really get this site going. Our goal is to eventually make it completely user-driven.
Back to the post! I’m sure many of you are just as excited about FF ’10 as I am. If not, scroll down and read some other interesting posts. If you are, I’m going to weigh in on who I see as the top ten fantasy players this year. Hopefully you disagree and will leave a comment as to why.
RB – Chris Johnson: If you are a football fan and don’t know his name, you are not a football fan. The guy had one of the biggest seasons from a RB in history. He can run and catch… very well. Surprisingly enough, that is a rare package in the NFL these days. If you have the number one pick in your league’s draft, I think you will regret that decision later on. That should tell you all you need to know.
RB – Ray Rice: With passing game that might actually do something positive this year, there will be much more for defenses to worry about when playing the Ravens than just Rice, despite his huge breakout year in 2009. The 2nd best receiving back in the league behind CJ, he will get a huge portion of the Ravens offensive workload this season.
RB – Maurice Jones-Drew: Beastly when taking the handoffs, beastly when catching passes. The questions here come from his teammates. The Jacksonville offense does not strike as much confidence in me as others from this top ten, but MJD’s talent alone is enough to take him in the top 10.
QB – Aaron Rodgers: The guy is a beast and has arguably the best receiving corps in the game. He outscored all other QB’s last year by lots of points (basically I’m not sure how many). Out of the backfield, there are not many better receiving RB’s than Ryan Grant. TE Jermichael Finley is a rising star at that position, and with the wideout threats of Donald Driver and Greg Jennings, Rodgers is in for another huge year.
RB – Adrian Peterson: The guy is a workhorse and will get a ton of handoffs. This will also decrease his value because he puts the ball on the ground way too much. With Brett “I cannot make-up my mind” Favre coming back, AP’s value will only rise with someone to take the center of attention from him on offense.
WR – Andre Johnson: The top wideout available without a doubt. Sure Reggie Wayne and Randy Moss are great picks, but neither is as big, strong, or fast as Johnson. He typically won’t be doubled either because Matt Schaub will pick out Jacoby Jones, Kevin Walter, or Owen
Daniels. Certain top 10 fantasy player.
RB – Steven Jackson: Aging and with a weak offense, but year after year Jackson proves that he is a top NFL back. Again, another top receiving back and he can still run. If you are in a PPR (point per reception) league, then Jackson is an especially strong pick. With Sam Bradford at QB, this makes Jackson’s value decrease a bit, but he should be a good safety net for Bradford when receivers are not open.
QB – Drew Brees: You want to talk about a high-powered offense. Let’s just begin by naming some of his weapons: Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, and Robert Meachem. That’s without mentioning a rookie who could make waves in the NFL this year in Montez Billings.
RB – DeAngelo Williams: From mock drafts I’ve seen, Williams does not seem to be the most popular, but I think he is a great 1st round value, especially if it takes Jonathan Stewart some time to recover from last season’s injury. Early in the season particularly, Stewart should be a strong number one RB in any fantasy team.
QB – Peyton Manning: Do you really need an explanation? Joseph Addai is a viable receiving RB. Dallas Clark is the best receiving TE in the league and Reggie Wayne is one of the best WR’s in the league. If Peyton falls to you late in the first, you’re picking up a guy who will consistently bring in points. It’s a guarantee.
Hope this helps with your draft. Let me know what you think. My hope is that some of my picks will be controversial.
Skateboarding was never my favorite sport by any stretch of the imagination, but with the introduction of shows such as “Rob and Big” and the rising of the X-Games, it’s definitely becoming more recognized among the American sports culture. There’s no denying that the guys are great athletes and competitors, but I watch am more entertained by those who take part in the sport. I’m especially excited when I see Rob Dyrdek, Meaty, and Reverend Zoltan Lendavi. If you don’t know who any of these people are, check out the videos below. Even if you’re not into skating, you can surely appreciate these.
P.S. – I just wanted to keep my post short today since it’s a busy day. Hopefully Brad can enlighten us on something magnificent later. If not, enjoy this for now.
The title does not refer to the Dave Matthews Band lyric, but instead my thoughts on watching soccer live in a pub. I’ll keep this post short because it’s late and I’m ready to sleep.
Nothing gets me going like watching the United States national team or Arsenal in a pub with other supporters. I’m sure you are wondering where I might be able to do that in the US. So was I before I found this site. Though it’s not listed on their now, it once had a link to the Abbey’s website. The Abbey Burger Bistro is the home of the Arsenal Baltimore supporters club and one heck of a place to watch a game, but I’ll get to that further down. No matter where you live, you can find a pub to watch a game with many other fans of the beautiful game right on the soccerbars’ website. I would encourage you to check out some of the places they have listed. If your city is not listed, don’t be afraid to google it. I never would’ve known there were so many out there watching soccer in public places in the US had I not taken some time to search. Since attending school near Harrisburg, PA, I’ve found multiple places to watch games in the area.
My first visit to the Abbey was with my friends before the Inter Milan – Chelsea friendly in the summer of 2009 (check out a few of our pics below) and I have been back multiple times since then. They have great people, a great atmosphere and great food. I think all of us would agree that the beer selection was superb as were the burgers. If you are ever in Baltimore, you should definitely pop in and have a pint. If you do, let me know what you think.
Yes, you guessed it. I’m talking about Brett Favre and Alex Rodriguez. There is no doubt that they are 2 of the greatest ever in their respective sports, but the fact that this is all the major sports channels are talking about is a little over-the-top for me.
A-rod will no doubt hit his 600th homerun soon enough, but who cares? How many of those homeruns were legit? I don’t claim to be able to play baseball in anywhere near the capacity that he does, but if I did, why use performance enhancing drugs? These questions may never be answered, but I just want to say that I’ve heard enough about A-rod in the past few weeks since he hit 599. I can’t say if I’m the only one, but it seems to me that A-rod is only worried about his self-importance rather than being a part of baseball history.
On to the next story. Brett Favre’s will he, won’t he saga. This is the 3rd time around and we’ve heard it all before. His ankle hurts, he wants more family time, he wants to relax, etc. I for one won’t be surprised either way because it’s been on-going since he “retired” the first time around. The guy is a treat to watch on the field and clearly one of the greatest ever QB’s, but it might be time for him to “throw in the towel.”
Just wanted to get all of that off of my chest. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your own thoughts on each of these stories.
