A “Little Bit” of Song Evolution

Lykke Li has been featured on here before.  The girl is an amazing talent with a voice and a style that seems to defy the constraints of time.  She has that old school, vintage feel but yet her songs are worked in such a modern and somewhat futuristic way.  Her song “Little Bit” is probably close to 3 years old now but I have yet to get tired of it.  It might be because the song is so catchy, or because it is unique, OR it might be because there are so many ways to listen to it.  It is always interesting to me to see how once a good song is released, how it begins to evolve as other people put their own style and musical influence into it.

I could listen to the original version…(such a fun video)

Or…The Remix with a Hip Hop Artist such as Drake!

  • Awesome lyrics at the end “Now the pressure’s on, both hearts beating like a metronome, both in sync like a justin song, feels so right, but its just so wrong”

And Finally, the electro version.

All three are the same song with other styles or genres mixed in to create a new version of the original.

A Blended Smoothie of Goodness

Here is a remix done by RK3.  What they did is take some Kid Cudi vocals from the Dan Black song, Symphonies…mix it with the heavenly sound of Florence of the Machines…then sprinkle some very chill electronics in the background.   Once all of the ingredients were in place, they through them in the blender and out came this sick mashup.  It sounds like she has the recipe down pat cause this turned out amazing.  Enjoy!

Phantastical Music

I hope you enjoy the play on words in the title of this post, I was very proud of it. (This post is about a band named Phantogram)  See I used the P and the H instead of the … oh well, I’m sure you get it.

Anyway, Phantogram is an Indie Pop duo from Sarasota Springs, New York and I need to thank my older brother for turning me on to them.  They definitely convey that indie persona in their music, it has that character that just screams “I’m different, I’m unique, but you know what, you’re gonna like it.”  Their music has movement to it, it makes you feel like you are on a  journey, whether it is floating through the air or traveling through space, it has got that feel to it that makes you not want to sit still.  It moves from dark to light and back again.  It moves fast to slow and slow to fast and repeats the cycle.  Sarah graces us with her voice and her talent on the keyboards while Josh compliments her with his work on the guitar strings on those echo vocals in the background.

The video below is just one of their many brilliant songs.  Their most popular is “mouthful of diamonds.”  I would have posted that video but I figured I would choose in relation to their persona and go with the road less traveled.  By the way, they write and record in a barn, how sick is that.  (Her bangs are awesome).
