Thursday Nights!

In the past, I have suggested new TV shows that are awesome and can replace the same old sitcoms that you are used to watching.  Here are a couple of my latest suggestions that all air on Thursday.

#1.  The League (FX)

The League is a fresh new show about one of the greatest things in American society, Fantasy Football.  This show follows 5 guys through the NFL season and their quest to hold the glorious trophy, The Shiva.  The best part about this show is that a ton of people can relate, because come on…who doesn’t love Fantasy Football.  If that isn’t enough, they have guest appearances from celebrities, most recently – Chad Ochocinco…Child Please!

Airs – Thursdays at 10:30

#2 – It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX)

Cats in the Wall…now you’re talking my language! This show is not new, but it is hilarious.  The characters are awesome, the plots are ridiculous and outlandish, and you will quickly learn to love these awful people.

Airs – Thursdays at 10:00 (right before #1 – The League)

#3 – Community (NBC)

Community title.jpg

Community follows a study group through their experiences at a Colorado Community College.  It is full of witty comedy which is made real through a very diverse group of characters, my favorite being Abed, the film student

Airs – Thursdays at 8:00

The Wonder of HULU.

After a long day at work, most of us are tired or stressed or frustrated or some fabulous mixture of all three.  We look for ways to unwind and relax.  There is nothing better than coming home and watching a new episode of your favorite show like The Office, Modern Family, or Community.  However, what happens if you are working late and you not only miss the newest episode, but you didn’t DVR it.  Well, if you don’t want to wait a week for it to show up on OnDemand, then I have the perfect solution.  http://www.hulu.com/ Hulu is a website that allows you to watch all of the episodes from your favorite shows right on your computer.

Hulu is a joint venture between NBC and Providence Equity Partners.  It has a huge database of tv shows, clips, movies, and movie trailers.  At the beginning of each episode or movie, you have to watch a brief advertisement and then you can watch the full episode commercial free.  It is perfect for catching up on a show before the new season starts or watching the latest episode you missed during its primetime airing.  To give you an idea, it already has the first episode of “The Event”.   It really provides the everyday person with the luxury of being able to watch your shows when you want.

Also, if you have a Vizio or Samsung TV that has the internet apps built in, look for the Hulu app, which will be coming soon.

Cinematic Adventures!

One of the quintessential American pasttimes that has proved to be a timeless form of entertainment by continuing to allure people of all ages is the Cinema…or Movie Theater.  Personally, I like Cinema better.  It makes me feel mature and sophisticated.  I encourage you from now on to refer to it is as the Cinema.  For a split second you can really confuse people.  The use of that one word will make them think you are there to indulge in a form of entertainment that will inspire and captivate you, when we all know you are just there to watch stuff blow up, see Brad Pitt take his shirt off (Sorry Ladies! His abs in Troy are fake), or for some God-awful reason…watch vampires & werewolves play in the woods.   ANYWAY…sorry for the tangent.  The Cinema is something just about everyone of us takes part in at some point, it may not be as often as others, but we still take part.  For those of you who are on the fence about going to see a new adventure soon, here are some of my recommendations.

Out Now:

  • “The Town”

I NEVER thought I would ever actually be encouraging anyone to go watch a movie that has anything to do with Ben Affleck, but what can I say, I never thought Lebron could be any more of a tool and we all know how that turned out.  “The Town” not only stars Ben Affleck but it is directed by Ben Affleck.  Before you condemn me, this movie is night and day from the quality of his earlier works such as Daredevil or Gigli.  The movie is set in Boston and it has a simple, easy to follow plot about bank robbers and all the action that goes along with that.  The real brilliance of this movie stems from the Boston characters that are portrayed by Affleck and Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker).  Both actors convey this real sense of authenticity to the audience without even a whole lot of dialogue.  The way these guys carry themselves throughout the movie allows you to realize they are criminals, but half way through you will be rooting for them because they connect with the everyday person.  Beyond all of that, it has your bank robberies, car chases, TONS of gunfire, and loads of suspense.  Check it out.

Upcoming:

  • Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Further Down The Road: (Check out the trailers)

  • Due Date

  • Unstoppable

Is Your Office This Cool?

I know my office space is boring.  I stare at a blank white wall and the only spice in my workspace is my awesome Redskins memorabilia and pictures of my hott girlfriend.  While I think it is cool, it doesn’t really compare to some of these creative minds.

Consider this as….Inspiration

Oh Mr. Tosh…Such A Comedian!

Lost is over.  Seinfeld was over like 8 years ago.  If you are still looking for a new show but don’t want to dabble in cookie cutter Reality shows, crappy new sitcoms, or NCIS LA, NY, DC, FL, etc. – Then check out Daniel Tosh on Comedy Central.  The show is called Tosh.O and it is hilarious.  Think of a mix between The Colbert Report and The Soup.  Tosh spends the half hour entertaining you with all of the viral youtube videos you only wish you had the time to discover and then he spends about 10 – 15 seconds making fun of each one of them.  He spices the episodes up with certain recurring segments such as:

  • Twispers
  • Dick of the Week & Prank of the Week
  • Video Breakdown
  • Web Investigation
  • 20 Seconds on the Clock
  • Web Redemption (Best Part of the Show)

His humor is fresh and creative.  He manages to make racist and sexist comments in a way which doesn’t really make it that offensive.  Kind of.  Just watch the show, if you aren’t completely uptight, then you will laugh and laugh and laugh.  Makes for great office water cooler talk.  I highly recommend checking it out.

Where: Comedy Central

When: Wednesday at 10:30 P.M.

You can also check your cable provider’s On Demand section to see if there are any old episodes available for your viewing pleasure.  If you don’t trust my judgment, then try out his blog and watch some videos.

Premier League Weekend Preview

Welcome to the newest weekly section of our site, where Brad or I will preview the weekend’s game in the English Premier League.  We will give our take on what to expect from the game and prediction of the score.

Everton v. Manchester United:  Goodison Park is a tough place to win, as United found out last season, and I don’t think they will take this task as lightly this season.  Assuming Alex Ferguson is bluffing about Wayne Rooney not playing, I expect his goal scoring form to continue at Goodison.  Prediction:  1-2

Arsenal v. Bolton:  Despite the injury losses of Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, and Thomas Vermaelen, Arsenal should have enough firepower to see this game out.  Denilson and Samir Nasri returning along with the improved fitness of Cesc Fabregas should see Arsenal score a handful of goals.  Watch for Bolton’s aerial attack to wreak havoc among Arsenal defenders.  Prediction:  3-1

Fulham v. Wolves:  Hard one to call. Fulham have come out of the gates slowly without the influence of Roy Hodgson and Mick McCarthy always has his boys fired up.  I expect a tight, low scoring match.  Fulham just does not concede at Craven Cottage.  Prediction:  1-0

Manchester City v. Blackburn:  City has all the big names stars and I expect them to have no trouble destroying Fat Sam’s Rovers.  City have not gelled as a unit so far, but I think this will be their coming out party.  They should not have any trouble defending against Rovers’ 6 footers.  Prediction:  4-0

Newcastle v. Blackpool:  Battle of 2 newly promoted clubs.  Blackpool has started strong, but Newcastle stronger.  Each wiped out established Premier League sides in their first few games with Blackpool beating Wigan 4-0 and Newcastle defeating Aston Villa 6-0.  This should be a fun one to watch, but a potential relegation 6-pointer.  Prediction:  1-3

West Brom v. Tottenham:  As much as it pains me to say this, I expect Hotspur to fully dominate this match and come away with an easy win.  No need to analyze – sorry Albion fans.  Prediction:  0-3

West Ham v. Chelsea:  Chelsea have been dominant to start the season to say the least.  Unfortunately for the Hammers, I can’t see that changing on Saturday.  They will put a huge fight against a huge rival at home, but I don’t expect their resistance to last long.  Prediction:  0-2

Wigan v. Sunderland:  Steve Bruce always finds a way to win, whether it as a player or manager.  With the debut of Asamoah Gyan looking likely, I can see Sunderland thumping Wigan in this one.  Roberto Martinez really needs to get his men together if they want to get a point, even if they are at home.  Prediction: 0-3

Birmingham v. Liverpool:  Roy Hodgson has a tough role to play in trying to dig Liverpool out of an early season mess.  I still think the players are lacking the confidence they need to go on and push for the title this year as a result of the massacre Rafa left them with last year.  Even with a fit Fernando Torres, I see the Brummies getting a point out of this one at St. Andrews.  Prediction:  1-1

Easy Like Sunday Morning

If you’re like me and 100% of this country, you’re excited about the NFL season starting tonight.  I anticipate tonight’s game between the Saints and Vikings to be a great start to the season, despite my previous post about the annoyingness (yes, I know that’s not a word) of the Brett Favre saga.  Even though I’m mostly looking forward to seeing amazing athletes bust out long touchdowns and seeing defensive players beat the crap out of wideouts and running backs, there is a more light-hearted side of the game…

GO RAVENS!  I know these types of things are supposed to be unbiased, but I just couldn’t end this post without giving a shout out for my favorite team.
