Work of Art

Back when things were a bit slower at work, I would use MS Paint to explore my inner artist.  I mean, who didn’t love using MS Paint when PC’s first became a common household electronic?  Anyway, over the coming weeks, I’ll feature some art that I created (all by myself) during down time during the work day.

This is the first piece of art that I decided to e-mail to my friends to give them a laugh at their jobs.  If you’re a Beatles fan, you’ll understand a bit better.  If not, hope it just makes you laugh.  Enjoy.

2 Sports Stories That Are WAY Over-Talked About

Yes, you guessed it.  I’m talking about Brett Favre and Alex Rodriguez.  There is no doubt that they are 2 of the greatest ever in their respective sports, but the fact that this is all the major sports channels are talking about is a little over-the-top for me.

A-rod will no doubt hit his 600th homerun soon enough, but who cares?  How many of those homeruns were legit?  I don’t claim to be able to play baseball in anywhere near the capacity that he does, but if I did, why use performance enhancing drugs?  These questions may never be answered, but I just want to say that I’ve heard enough about A-rod in the past few weeks since he hit 599.  I can’t say if I’m the only one, but it seems to me that A-rod is only worried about his self-importance rather than being a part of baseball history.

On to the next story.  Brett Favre’s will he, won’t he saga.  This is the 3rd time around and we’ve heard it all before.  His ankle hurts, he wants more family time, he wants to relax, etc.  I for one won’t be surprised either way because it’s been on-going since he “retired” the first time around.  The guy is a treat to watch on the field and clearly one of the greatest ever QB’s, but it might be time for him to “throw in the towel.”

Just wanted to get all of that off of my chest.  Feel free to leave a comment and let me know your own thoughts on each of these stories.

ATTENTION: Work-Time-Fun Public Notice!

Hello All,

We here at Work-Time-Fun are proud to announce the addition of a new feature to the site. As you may have already noticed, every Thursday there is a new post titled “Thursday’s Tunes” where we try to provide you with 10 songs to help get you through the week. These songs vary in genre and release date. The goal is to give you ten good songs that you may have never heard of or haven’t heard in a long time.

Now we have added an MP3 Player which is located on the righthand sidebar. Now you can play these songs while you are at work or at home or on your phone. This feature will allow you to listen to the songs we suggest so that you can decide on your own whether they fit your liking or not.

Every Thursday a new set of 10 songs will be posted to the site and simultaneously uploaded into the player for your enjoyment. This is still a work in progress and in the future we will be working on the aesthetics of the player as well as the layout. Enjoy!

Warm-Up Songs!

If any of you ever played on organized sports teams or if you have kids that play sports regularly, then chances are you know the importance of a good warm-up mix. In High School, I had the priviledge of playing both soccer and basketball. Since soccer games are outside, I had to fend for myself and provide my own tunes through headphones. With basketball, some of my fondest memories were centered around a pre-game warm up before a big game against a league rival. If the adrenaline caused by the pure anticipation of the game isn’t enough to get you jacked up, coming out to a gym full of fans and good music blaring will definitely do the trick.

After busting through a banner held up by a bunch of cheerleaders with screaming fans in the background, you go right into your pre-game drills. Even though I was white and couldn’t throw down, lay up lines and the tip drill still got me pretty jacked up. The atmosphere is what really gets your blood pumping. You got your friends, classmates, family, and local fans out to watch you play. You can look on the other side of the court and see the nights’ challenge before you. In the background, you got some thumping bass and motivational chords streaming from the gym speakers. Man, that is just one of those feelings that is so full of nostalgia that it can take you right back to those days, no matter how long ago it was.

If you are looking for some songs to add to your warm-up CD, check some of my favorites out. These are also great for running or working out. Just good songs that get you pumped up.

1. Fatboy Slim – Right Here, Right Now
2. Kele – Walk Tall
3. Does It Offend You, Yeah – We Are Rockstars
4. Paul Oakenfold – Ready, Steady, Go
5. Saul Williams – List of Demands

Here are some that should be used strictly with headphones. Not for the kiddies.
1. Tupac – When We Ride On Our Enemies
2. Youngbloodz – Datz Me
3. Dr. Dre – The Next Episode
4. Lil Wayne – Go DJ
5. DMX – Party Up (What A Classic)

Now, I know there are plenty more. If you want to share your favorites, put it in the comments!
