Drop On The Deck & Flop Like A Fish!

The title of this post serves multiple purposes, all of which are fantastical goodness.

  1. You are correct, it is part of the lyrics to one of the greatest theme songs of all time.  Please don’t hate on Spongebob, he never did anything to you, except invite you to his humble abode under the sea.
  2. It serves as a great reference to one of the greatest soccer celebrations to grace the beautiful game.

Performed by an Icelandic Soccer Team.  Made famous by entertainment moguls – ESPN, Yahoo, & Yours Truly.

Johann the Salmon, you deserve an ESPY for your gracious contribution.

Now, my friends and I are still young and we still enjoy spending some of our free time playing video games, most notably FIFA 10′.  You can tell who the real nerds in our group are (Steve), because they know all of the celebrations you can perform after scoring a goal.  There are countless ways to rub your sweet success in your friend’s face, whether it is the robot, rockin the baby, a failed backflip, or my personal favorite…the “OH, Come On Then!!” I mean really, who doesn’t like insulting a friend through the use of a virtual game character that looks exactly like Wayne Rooney, complete with the receding hairline and rugged good looks.

I had the chance to play the new World Cup 2010 game recently and their new goal celebration gave me a little deja-vu to Johann, our Icelandic friend.

Wow.  I laugh everytime.

Cheers to Youth.

5-Star Dining @ A 2-Star Price!

For most of the working class of America, fine dining is categorized on our budgets as a luxury and it is a category that is usually overlooked due to the expensive costs.  Instead of eating at Ruth Chris once a month, we exchange Applebee’s as our “night out on the town” and save the $100 meal for an Anniversary with our significant other.  It is unfortunate that everyday people who work so hard for their money, can’t take the opportunity to have a nice glass of wine and a fresh sirloin because they are worried it will send them $50 overbudget for the month.  Therefore, a night out at a classy and distinguished restaurant is usually a nice thought but not much else.

My girlfriend and I really enjoy our Anniversary or Valentine’s Day because it gives us an excuse to splurge for the night and feel important.  I personally love being able to spend a crap ton of money on some lamb skewers or a nice piece of sushi grade tuna.  She loves the food too, but she also loves the opportunity to get dolled up and use valet.  Another benefit is just the feeling you get that makes you realize what a blessing it is to be able to treat your significant other to a nice night on the town that they deserve.  I love making my girlfriend feel like a queen, I just wish there was a way I could do it more often……

Thank you Mom! She is the perpetual bargain hunter and she is one of the best.  Restaurant.com is a find of hers and one I will be grateful for, more so in the future since I have yet to really reap the benefits of this site.  I’m sure a lot of you have heard of the site but for those of you who this is new to, the site allows you that chance to be able to dine at a local eatery on the water or the fancy schmancy place in the city for a little more than you would pay for Chili’s or Bob Evans.  How? They enable you to purchase gift certificates to these classy establishments at a fraction of the price.  The best part is there is pretty much no catch, except that it is for a select amount of places in your area.

 Here are the prices:

  • $10 Gift Certificate — You Pay: $4
  • $25 Gift Certificate — You Pay: $10
  • $50 Gift Certificate — You Pay: $25
  • $75 Gift Certificate — You Pay:$30
  • $100 Gift Certificate — You Pay:$40 (Best Value)

So fellas, next time you want to take your wife/girlfriend out for a romantic dinner or the girl you just met out for your first date, this makes it affordable.  Guarantee you will leave a good impression on that first date, that is unless you are completely awkward or extremely offensive, then you might as well save some money and just go for Taco Bell.  Even if you can’t get a date, drop $30 and go eat a $75 meal by yourself, I won’t judge you. Maybe a little.

This Is Why They Manage…

When my wife got home this evening, and I asked how her day was at work, I heard a story that I knew immediately be a good addition to the site.  I sat down to check my e-mail when she came into our office and told me she had to tell me what her supervisor showed them at work today.  Note: Not for the weak stomach.

Now, I’m all for having a laugh at work, but you can’t deny it’s a little strange that her supervisor showed her and her co-workers THIS picture.  And as if they needed further proof of its validity, the supervisor proceeded to show them a video of the “Two Faced Baby.”  Check it out on youtube if you are actually interested.  To finish it off, they ended with pictures/videos of the “No Faced Baby.”  I declined to view these when offered.  I prefer to watch actual funny videos myself.

Anyway, that’s just a taste of the Manager’s Office section of our site.  It is going to have funny stories from the office. If you have any of your own, head over to the Contact Us section, and send’em along.

Easy Meal #1

As Brad and I add more and more to this site, I am hoping that this section can be a daily feature, but we’ll see what happens.  We simply wanted to have a section where busy, overworked people can come to find an easy meal idea.  Enough of the explanation – you get it.

Easy Meal #1 is Salmon and Asparagus which, coincidentally, I had for dinner tonight.  Buy a salmon chunk (I’m not sure what the correct term is for a piece of salmon as you can tell) and a… bunch of asparagus.  Put a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon juice on each (oh, and be sure to cut the gross ends off the asparagus).  Put the salmon on a piece of aluminum foil and throw it on the grill for 10-15 minutes.  Don’t have a grill?  It could take a bit longer.  Throw it in a glass baking dish put it in the oven on 300 for about 40 minutes (it’s better to have a grill, but still very little work).    Throw the asparagus in a pan and put it on medium heat for 8-10 minutes… DONE.

That’s the basic gist of things.  Enjoy!

Post-Rock Inspiration

Music is an inspirational medium which has the uncanny ability to transcend one comprehension or one meaning and instead, allow for the interpretation to be completely flexible.  I think it is an amazing thing to listen to how notes and chords can strike me one way and make someone else feel completely different.  Post-Rock bands achieve this rythmic flexibility more than any other genre of music.  Their songs made up of beautifully woven melodies can inspire each one of us in different ways, they can create their own sense of nostalgia within each individual, and they can evoke many different feelings.   Some songs can be therapy…others can be overwhelming.  I find these songs beautiful because they are emotional in the sense that they contain the emotion of their authors and they can draw out so many different emotions from their listeners.  I love being able to jam out to a song where I know all of the words and all of my friends do too…the songs you can blast in your car or sing along to at the bar.  Other times, these Post-Rock songs are the perfect nourishment for me, they are exactly what I need at that time.

One of my favorite things in the world to do, may sound a little strange, but I love to just go into my room turn off all of the lights and lay in my bed.  I turn on some music and I just lay there.  I let my mind wander.  I daydream.  I just go with it, kind of wherever the music takes me.  Sometimes, I may not think anything at all, I may just lay there and enjoy the serenade.  Other times, I play up a scenario and enjoy allowing my imagination to roam wild.  Try it one day.  It is a great form of relaxation.

Try out a couple of these Post-Rock Bands:

  1. Sigur Ros
  2. Explosions In The Sky
  3. God Is An Astronaut
  4. Mogwai
